Paris

When I had saved, when I had planned, when I got lucky enough to be able to make my first overseas trip, there was no question where I was going. Other destinations weren’t even considered. I borrowed a backpack, bought film and went to Paris.

Almost 20 years later, I still can’t get enough. The streets and parks, markets, monuments, the Metro and train stations. Generations of legends have only been able to pry open a superficial look at this captivating place. My images are just what I find interesting. Someday I will make it a long-term destination — or at least an extended vacation — but for now, I’m happy to just catch a bit of its magic, like particles radiating off a comet. Its light will always be bright.

“Maybe that’s enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom…is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.”

Anthony Bourdain

If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.

Ernest Hemmingway
